BREAKING: President Tinubu Establishes Task Force To Fight Ebola Virus

President Tinubu has approved the formation of a Presidential Task Force to handle threats from Ebola virus.

This was revealed in a Facebook post on 9th May 2026 by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to him, the President also authorized the immediate release of N10 billion to support emergency response efforts. This fund aims to bolster the capacity of the National Centre for Disease Control and support critical health emergency activities across the country.

He mentioned that the task force would be chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, with members from various government agencies and state representatives.

The move came after a stakeholder meeting, which reviewed Nigeria’s readiness and strategized against the potential importation of Ebola, especially as the disease re-emerged in neighboring countries like the DRC and Uganda.

Onanuga added that President Tinubu directed all states with international airports and borders to submit their preparedness plans and funding needs. The measures planned include intensified passenger screening, enhanced monitoring of travelers from high-risk countries, and the activation of referral and isolation centers at major airports.

Additionally, pre-arrival health declarations, airport disinfection, and flight regulations were to be implemented, with consultation from security, diplomatic, and aviation authorities to ensure coordinated action.
