Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has secured a decisive victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary, polling an overwhelming majority of votes to emerge as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.

According to results announced by the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Mutfwang scored 233,335 votes across the 17 local government areas of the state, defeating his sole challenger, retired Commander Yilchini Jan Bida, who polled just 3,070 votes.

The returning officer declared Mutfwang the winner, stating that he satisfied all requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines.

Mutfwang, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in late 2025, described his victory as a strong endorsement of his administration’s performance and the ongoing realignment in Plateau politics.

His defection has significantly strengthened the APC’s position in the state.

Political observers view Mutfwang’s landslide win as a major boost for the ruling party’s chances in Plateau ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially given the advantages of incumbency and growing support from key stakeholders.

The development comes on the same day another APC governorship primary produced a winner in Kwara State, highlighting the party’s ongoing preparations for the next electoral cycle.
