BREAKING NEWS: One Dead, Scores Injured As APC, Accord Supporters Clash In Osogbo
One person has been confirmed dead while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a violent clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Tuesday.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the violence, which triggered panic across the city, was accompanied by sporadic gunfire reported in areas including Owode, Aisu, Olaiya and Oke-Fia, forcing residents and motorists to flee for safety.
The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party, in a statement signed by its chairman, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, accused suspected political thugs allegedly loyal to the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, of unleashing terror on innocent residents.
Akande alleged that the attackers, numbering over 20, moved in a convoy of six branded Sienna buses under the banner “AMBO by Ajisope,” shooting indiscriminately at perceived political opponents and passersby.
According to him, the violence reportedly started from Akoda and spread to Oke-Fia, with the first fatality recorded at Owode-Ede, where a trader was allegedly hit by a stray bullet and died instantly.
He further claimed that several victims sustained gunshot wounds, with at least three said to be in critical condition and receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals.
The party also alleged that the assailants specifically targeted individuals wearing branded items associated with the Accord Party or supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Akande, who condemned the incident, described it as a dangerous escalation of political violence capable of undermining democratic processes and public safety in the state.
“We call on the Inspector-General of Police to immediately order a thorough investigation into these attacks and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice, regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
He also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and caution key APC figures, including former governor Gboyega Oyetola, against actions that could plunge the state into chaos.
