BREAKING: INEC Fixes June 20 For Rivers South-East By-election To Replace Senator Mpigi

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Rivers State says it has fixed Saturday, June 20, 2026, for the conduct of a bye-election to fill the vacant Rivers South-East Senatorial seat.

The election is to fill the vacancy in the Senatorial District, following the demise of Senator Barry Mpigi.

According to the Commission, voting will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. across the seven local government areas in the senatorial district.

The election will take place in 88 Registration Areas and 1,629 Polling Units in Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Khana and Gokana local government areas.

Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, made this known in a statement released on Thursday.

He assured residents, political parties and other stakeholders that the Commission remains committed to conducting a peaceful, transparent and credible bye-election.
