BREAKING: FCT Senatorial Election: Wike Will Not Be A Factor Because He’s An Appointee — Aisha Yesufu

FCT senatorial aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Aisha Yesufu, has said FCT minister Nyesom Wike will not influence the outcome of the 2027 senatorial race, arguing that his position as an appointee places him outside the electoral contest she is focused on.

Speaking on Channels Television, Yesufu made this assertion while responding to questions about whether Wike would be a factor given his position as FCT Minister and his involvement in the last FCT council elections.

She said she does not see Wike as a challenge because her campaign is centered on securing the mandate of voters, not seeking government appointments. She stressed that her first priority is winning the NDC primary and obtaining the party’s ticket.

She urged Abuja residents to support her during the primaries and cautioned them against assuming that because she’s popular, she would automatically get the NDC’s ticket. She said many popular aspirants lose out because supporters fail to turn out, believing victory is already assured.

She added that for now, her focus is mobilizing grassroots support, but once she becomes the candidate, she will address concerns on facing other contenders such as Senator Philip Aduda and Senator Ireti Kingibe.

In her words, “So please, first of all, before we get into this, by the time I’m a candidate, then I would sit down and talk about those who are already candidates, the Senator Philip Aduda, and Senator Ireti Kingibe.”

“Right now, I’m an aspirant, so my focus is in my party. When I get the ticket by the grace of God, then I will contest. Even in that, Wike will not be a factor because he’s an appointee and I’m not in the business of looking for appointments. I’m in the business of looking for the mandate of the people.”
