BREAKING: Atiku Sweeps ADC Primaries in Zamfara, Yobe

According to a report by The Guardian on Tuesday 26th May 2026, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has secured victories in the presidential primaries of the African Democratic Congress held in Zamfara and Yobe States, as the party progresses with its nationwide selection process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In Zamfara State, the ADC Presidential Primary Election Committee announced that Atiku polled 60,500 votes to defeat Mohammed Hayatuddeen, who scored 446 votes, and Rotimi Amaechi, who got 191 votes; The election, conducted across 147 wards in the state’s 14 local government areas, recorded 61,137 votes cast out of 63,484 registered party members.

Declaring the result in Gusau, the returning officer, Namadi Musa, said the process complied with ADC guidelines and the Electoral Act, 2026, adding that Atiku emerged winner after securing the highest number of votes.

In Yobe State, Atiku also came out on top with 44,841 votes, while Hayatuddeen and Amaechi polled 365 and 303 votes respectively; The results were announced by returning officer Ma’am Kyari after collation from across all local government areas.

Observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the exercise, which was conducted using the Option A4 voting system across wards nationwide.

Party stakeholders in Yobe praised the peaceful conduct of the primaries, expressing optimism that the ADC remains competitive ahead of the 2027 polls.
