The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has appointed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai’s appointment was announced as part of the campaign structure unveiled by the ADC, with Kashim Ibrahim-Imam appointed Chairman of the council and Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu serving as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
According to the campaign structure, El-Rufai will oversee high-level political coordination and engagement with key stakeholders across the country.
The appointment comes as the former Kaduna governor remains under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations linked to his tenure in Kaduna State.
El-Rufai has denied wrongdoing in relation to the allegations.
The former governor is also involved in separate legal proceedings, including a case filed by the Department of State Services over allegations relating to the interception of communications involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
The ADC campaign council also includes several prominent political figures, including former Edo State Governor and former APC National Chairman John Oyegun, who will chair the Campaign Advisory Council.
The development marks another major step by Atiku’s campaign as political parties intensify preparations and begin assembling their structures ahead of the 2027 general elections..
