Bizarre Trend Sees Men Trimming Their Eyelashes to Look More ‘Manly’

Long eyelashes are something many women want, with an entire beauty industry selling fake lashes and treatments to make them look longer.

But some men are now doing the opposite.

A strange beauty trend has some young men cutting or trimming their eyelashes because they believe long lashes make them look too feminine.

Videos showing men getting their eyelashes trimmed at barber shops and beauty salons started appearing on TikTok and other social media platforms last year.

Instead of disappearing, the trend has continued to spread and has been linked to “looksmaxxing,” where people try different ways to improve or change their physical appearance.

However, cutting eyelashes can come with health risks.

Eyelashes do more than improve someone’s appearance. They help protect the eyes from dirt, sweat, dead skin cells and other particles.

Cutting them very short can leave the eyes more exposed and may increase the risk of irritation, discomfort and infection.

Eyelashes eventually grow back, but this can take months.

There is also the risk of injury during the trimming itself. Using sharp scissors or blades very close to the eyes could cause serious damage if something goes wrong.

Despite claims that shorter eyelashes make men look more masculine, eyelash length is largely determined by genetics and both men and women can naturally have long eyelashes.

The idea that long eyelashes are feminine comes mainly from cultural beauty standards rather than biology.

The trend has now joined a growing list of unusual beauty practices that have gained attention online.
