Bad news for bankrupt Pakistan: Al-Qaeda targets Pak Army, issues fresh warning over…; Asim Munir under pressure

International terror outfit Al-Qaeda has reportedly issued a warning to Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership amid escalating tensions with Afghanistan. According to reports, the group has openly declared its support for the Taliban government in Afghanistan and asked Pakistan’s military to stay away from Afghan territory.

In a two-page message released through Sahab Media, Al-Qaeda said it fully supports the Taliban against what it described as Pakistan’s ‘civil-military hybrid regime.’ The group also warned Pakistan to avoid any interference in Afghanistan, especially at a time when cross-border tensions are already high.

Accusations against Pakistan’s leadership

As per a CNN-News18 report, Al-Qaeda, once led by Osama bin Laden and closely associated with Mullah Omar’s network, accused Pakistan’s leadership of aligning with Western countries. The group claimed that the Taliban government in Afghanistan is part of a broader ideological shift in the region and alleged that Pakistan is acting against Afghan interests.

Al-Qaeda also referred to the historical relationship between Pakistan and Taliban-linked militant networks, including their shared involvement in the so-called jihad against the Soviet Union.

Appeal to Pakistani citizens and soldiers

In its message, Al-Qaeda made a direct appeal to the people and soldiers of Pakistan, urging them not to follow government orders. It called on them to support what it described as its ‘jihadist objectives’ and asked them to show ‘compassion’ and support what it termed a religious duty.

Security experts believe that such statements are aimed at exploiting anti-government sentiments within Pakistan and expanding the group’s influence in the region.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has reportedly continued issuing warnings to the Taliban amid rising border tensions.

The statement comes at a time when Pakistan and Afghanistan relations remain highly strained. Pakistan has carried out multiple airstrikes inside Afghan territory in recent months, while Taliban forces have reportedly retaliated by targeting Pakistani military positions along the Durand Line.

The border area has also seen a halt in trade between the two countries, further worsening the situation.

India’s position and regional diplomacy

The Taliban has repeatedly stated that it does not recognise the Durand Line as an international border. In response, Pakistan has been reinforcing fencing along the border to prevent infiltration and strengthen its territorial claim.

Efforts by China to mediate between Pakistan and the Taliban have so far failed. Reports also suggest that Pakistan is attempting to position itself as a mediator in broader regional conflicts, including between Iran and the United States, while simultaneously carrying out airstrikes in Afghanistan, actions that have been strongly criticised.

India has also condemned Pakistan’s actions in the region, calling them aggressive and destabilising.
