Attempted burglary targets Yamal hours after Spain’s World Cup win
Spain forward Lamine Yamal was the target of an attempted burglary just hours after helping his country reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup final with victory over France.
According to reports in Spain, two masked suspects attempted to gain access to the 19-year-old’s home on the outskirts of Barcelona during the early hours of Wednesday.
The incident came only hours after Yamal played a key role in Spain’s 2-0 semi-final victory over France, winning the penalty that led to Mikel Oyarzabal’s opening goal.
Security foils break-in attempt
The suspected intruders were reportedly seen on a wall surrounding the property before they could enter the house.
Yamal’s private security team detected the pair through surveillance cameras and activated emergency procedures, prompting the suspects to flee the scene.
Local police responded after the alarm was raised and have since opened an investigation into the attempted burglary.
Authorities are treating the incident as an attempted robbery involving force and are reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify the suspects.
Investigation underway
The property reportedly belonged to former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and Colombian singer Shakira before their separation in 2022.
The attempted burglary is the latest security incident involving Barcelona players.
Earlier this year, defender Pau Cubarsi reportedly had a luxury watch stolen, while goalkeeper Joan Garcia’s home was burgled, with cash and jewellery taken.
Despite the off-field incident, Yamal has enjoyed an outstanding campaign for both club and country.
The teenager has been one of Spain’s standout performers at the World Cup and scored his first goal of the tournament during his country’s 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the group stage.
He also impressed for Barcelona during the 2025/26 season, registering 24 goals and 18 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.
Spain will now turn their attention to Sunday’s World Cup final, where they will face either England or Argentina in a bid to lift the trophy for the second time in the nation’s history.
