Another Batch of Evacuated Nigerians Return From South Africa, Arrive in Lagos

Another batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa has arrived in Lagos as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to assist citizens returning home.

The returnees arrived on Tuesday aboard an Air Peace aircraft, which landed at the cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja at approximately 10:54 a.m.

The latest evacuation forms part of the government’s response to growing concerns over the safety and welfare of Nigerians in South Africa amid rising tensions surrounding undocumented migrants.

The exercise also comes ahead of the June 30 deadline reportedly issued by some vigilante groups and other organisations in South Africa, calling for undocumented foreign nationals to leave the country.

Nigerian authorities have continued to coordinate the voluntary evacuation of citizens willing to return home, while monitoring developments affecting Nigerians residing in South Africa.

Government officials are expected to receive the returnees and facilitate the necessary documentation and support to aid their reintegration.

The Federal Government has repeatedly urged Nigerians living abroad to comply with the immigration laws of their host countries while reaffirming its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of its citizens wherever they reside.
