AGN mourns Nollywood legend Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’

The Actors Guild of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, has mourned the death of veteran actor Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Ogogo passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026 after battling stage four cancer. He was one of Nollywood’s most respected screen figures with a career spanning over three decades.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Guild described the late actor as “a giant of Nigerian cinema” known for his commanding screen presence, powerful voice, and commitment to telling authentic Nigerian stories.

The Guild also noted that Ogogo was a mentor to many younger actors, a disciplinarian on set, and a proud ambassador of Yoruba culture and Nigerian values.

Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Executives, and members of AGN Lagos, Director of Communications Amb. Cornell Udofia said the loss was deeply felt across the industry.

“Ogogo’s death is a huge loss to the creative industry. He represented excellence, integrity, and the golden era of Nollywood. We celebrate his life, his works, and the indelible mark he left on our industry,” the statement read.

The Guild extended condolences to Ogogo’s immediate family, the AGN National body, the entire Nollywood community, and fans worldwide. It prayed that God grants his soul eternal rest and gives the family strength to bear the loss.

The late actor will be laid to rest in Ilaro, Ogun State on Monday according to Islamic rites.
