After landslide victory, Tinubu sets Agenda for Oyebanji

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on his resounding victory in Saturday’s governorship election, urging him to remain inclusive and build on the achievements of his first term.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Oyebanji’s re-election as a reflection of the confidence reposed in him by the people of Ekiti State and a validation of his administration’s performance over the last four years.

Tinubu commended the people of Ekiti for their peaceful and orderly conduct during the election, noting that their support for the governor demonstrated a commitment to continuity, stability and people-centred governance.

The President also praised security agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process, while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sustain efforts at conducting peaceful, free, fair and credible elections ahead of the Osun State governorship election in August and the 2027 general elections.

With the victory, Oyebanji has made history as the first governor in Ekiti State to secure back-to-back re-election victories, a feat that underscores his growing political influence and widespread acceptance across the state.

Tinubu noted that the governor’s first term witnessed significant progress in key sectors, including infrastructure development, agriculture, youth empowerment, education, healthcare and rural development under the BAO Agenda.

According to the President, the renewed mandate handed to Oyebanji by voters is a clear endorsement of the administration’s policies and developmental strides.

He, however, charged the governor not to view the victory as an opportunity for triumphalism but as a call to greater service.

The President urged Oyebanji to be magnanimous in victory and ensure that all segments of the state, irrespective of political affiliation, are carried along as he begins another four-year term.

“Governor Oyebanji should remain focused on delivering the dividends of democracy and consolidating on the gains already recorded in the state,” the statement said.

Tinubu also extended commendation to other candidates who participated in the election, describing their involvement as a vital contribution to the democratic process.

He called on all political stakeholders to set aside partisan differences and support the governor in the collective task of advancing the development of Ekiti State.

The President further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with the Ekiti State Government to deepen development initiatives and accelerate the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the benefit of the people.
