Kenyan digital marketing consultant and infleuncer, Millicent Bundi has opened up about her divorce journey, describing it as a deeply emotional period that brought significant personal transformation.

Speaking during an interview on BBC News Africa, she reflected on the events that led to the end of her marriage. According to her, the turning point came in early 2022 after she quit her job, which gave her the time and space to reflect on her life. During that period, she realized that her marriage was no longer working and described feeling “suffocated” in the relationship.

She eventually made the decision to leave in December 2022 after spending some time away to gain clarity. She explained that even before leaving, she had already begun the process of emotional healing while still in the marriage.

Highlighting how the experience affected her physically and emotionally, she said, “After I divorced my ex-husband, I shaved my hair and I started looking older than my age.” She described the decision to shave her hair as a personal statement, symbolizing that she was completely done with that chapter of her life.

Bundi also shared that the legal process of the divorce took about six months from the time she filed until it was finalized. However, beyond the legal aspect, she noted that dealing with societal reactions was one of the most challenging parts.

According to her, she experienced stigma and did not receive as much support as she had expected, which made the journey more difficult.
