Afenyo-Markin Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Sammy Gyamfi

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has filed lawsuits against Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi and others over alleged extortion claims.

The Effutu MP announced the legal action in Parliament on Monday, August 24, 2026.

The lawsuits follow a public dispute between Afenyo-Markin and Sammy Gyamfi over GoldBod’s operations and reported losses under the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

The dispute became more serious after Sammy Gyamfi allegedly described Afenyo-Markin as an “extortionist.”

Afenyo-Markin rejected the allegation. He described it as false and harmful to his reputation.

He said two separate lawsuits had been filed.

The first case, Suit Number GT/1029/2026, names Sammy Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited as defendants. It was filed at the Accra High Court.

The second case, Suit Number GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, names Eric Adjei and Peace FM as defendants. It was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.

“I have every confidence that in the fullness of time the court will make the appropriate determination,” Afenyo-Markin said.

He also challenged anyone accusing him of extortion to report the matter to the police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor or another investigative body.

Afenyo-Markin said he would cooperate with any investigation to clear his name.

Sammy Gyamfi has reportedly indicated that he is ready to defend his statements in court.

The court has not ruled on the allegations. The claims against Afenyo-Markin and his defamation claims against the defendants remain unproven.
