ADC dismisses claims of alleged sack of Mark, Aregbesola

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports that David Mark, its national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola, national secretary, were removed from office following a recent judgment by the Court of Appeal Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary described the reports as misleading, insisting that the appellate court did not issue any ruling affecting the party’s current leadership.

Abdullahi explained that the court only addressed procedural matters related to the case and did not determine the substantive dispute over the leadership of the party.

According to him, the suit challenging the emergence of Mark as national chairman and Aregbesola as national secretary is still pending before the federal high court of Nigeria and has not yet been heard on its merits.

He added that the appellate court did not grant any relief to the plaintiff or issue an order affecting the party’s leadership structure.

Instead, the court directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit.

Abdullahi urged members and supporters of the party not to be misled by what he described as misinterpretations of the court’s judgment.

The ADC maintained that its leadership remains intact and advised party members to disregard reports suggesting that Mark and Aregbesola had been removed from office.

The party also stated that internal legal disputes should not be interpreted as a breakdown of its leadership, stressing that the organisation remains united and focused on its political objectives.
