Legendary actor Tim Curry, best known for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at the age of 80.

Curry died late Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles, according to sources cited by TMZ. Police responded to his residence at about 11:23 p.m. following a reported medical emergency. The Los Angeles Fire Department said he was pronounced dead at the scene, while law enforcement sources said no foul play was suspected.

Curry had battled serious health problems for more than a decade. He suffered a major stroke in 2012 that required brain surgery. Last year, around the release of his memoir Vagabond, he said he was still unable to walk. Curry rose to international fame with The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in which his portrayal of the flamboyant Dr. Frank-N-Furter became one of cinema’s most recognizable cult performances.

He also became widely known for playing Pennywise the clown in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s It. Other notable credits included Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Clue, Annie, The Hunt for Red October, Muppet Treasure Island, Addams Family Reunion and Scary Movie 2.

Beyond film and television, Curry enjoyed a distinguished theatre career. He received three Tony Award nominations and an Emmy nomination during a career spanning five decades.

Despite his health struggles in later years, Curry remained a celebrated figure in entertainment and continued to work creatively, including the publication of his memoir. He leaves behind a lasting legacy as one of the most distinctive performers in film, television and theatre. Tim Curry was 80.
