Actor Charles Ndawurum Mocks South Africa After World Cup Exit

Nigerian actor Charles Ndawurum has reacted to South Africa’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup, joining many Nigerians who celebrated the result on social media.

South Africa’s national team, South Africa national football team, bowed out of the tournament after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Canada men’s national soccer team in the knockout stage on Saturday night.

Following the final whistle, Ndawurum shared a video of himself laughing at the outcome and mocking the South African side. In the clip, he jokingly suggested that the players should return home and focus on their families and everyday lives after their World Cup campaign came to an end.

The actor’s reaction echoed those of several Nigerian social media users who celebrated South Africa’s defeat, with many referencing the longstanding rivalry between the two countries.

Relations between some Nigerians and South Africans have remained strained in recent years due to recurring xenophobic attacks and anti-foreigner sentiments in parts of South Africa. These incidents have particularly affected Nigerian nationals living in the country and have sparked diplomatic concerns and public criticism from both sides.

While many online users viewed Ndawurum’s comments as light-hearted banter common in football rivalries, others urged restraint, arguing that sporting competition should not be used to inflame tensions between citizens of the two African nations.

The video has since generated mixed reactions across social media, with supporters and critics debating whether the actor’s remarks were harmless football banter or an unnecessary dig at South Africa following its World Cup exit.
