Abia Govt Dismisses State House of Assembly’s Clerk Over Alleged Misconduct

Abia State Government has suspended the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, Mr. JohnPedro Irokansi, over alleged misconduct in the discharge of his duties.

Irokansi has served as Clerk of the Assembly for 16 years, spanning three successive administrations in the state.

The suspension came through an official letter dated May 20, 2026, signed by the State Head of Service, Mr. Benson Ojeikere.

The government has appointed a Deputy Director in the Legislative Department of the Assembly, Mr
Promise Onwukwe, as the Acting Clerk.

Though the reason for Irokansi’s suspension was not disclosed, the letter directed the Acting Clerk to assume full responsibility for the office pending the conclusion of investigation and further directives from the appropriate authorities.

The letter also directed Onwukwe to take care of government properties and documents handed over to him.

“Safeguard all government property, official records and documents duly handed over to you in accordance with extant regulations,” the letter stated.
