Abia Govt Concludes Recruitment Of 4,074 New Teachers

The Abia State Government has concluded the recruitment of 4,074 teachers in the second batch of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the education sector.

The State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu said appointment notifications had been issued to all 4,074 successful candidates.

He explained that the recruitment exercise was conducted transparently and strictly on merit, with 50.5 per cent adopted as the cut-off mark.

The Commissioner said the recruitment would help address manpower shortages in schools across the state, particularly in areas with shortages of teachers and critical subject teachers.

According to him, the newly recruited teachers will begin onboarding and orientation next week before their deployment to schools across the state.

The Abia State Government says the exercise is part of the Otti administration’s broader efforts to reposition the education sector, improve classroom instruction and provide pupils with greater access to qualified teachers.
