Abacha died on top of a woman during intercourse at Aso Rock – Ex-DSS Chief

Nearly three decades after the sudden death of former military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, a retired senior official of the Department of State Services (DSS) has offered a dramatic new account of the events surrounding the late ruler’s final hours, claiming he died of a cardiac arrest during an intimate encounter inside the Presidential Villa.

The revelation was made by former Assistant Director of the DSS, Dennis Amachree, in his newly released memoir, ‘DSS @40: My Journey Behind the Shield’, where he also dismissed long-standing conspiracy theories that have surrounded Abacha’s death since June 1998.

Amachree, who served as Assistant Director of Operations and Intelligence at the Lagos DSS Command when Abacha died, said the military ruler suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at about 4:05 a.m. inside the Aso Rock Guest House.

According to him, Abacha had received his girlfriend at the Presidential Villa after she arrived with her younger sister, a pharmacist who was attending a conference in Abuja.

He alleged that after the girlfriend returned to her hotel, the younger sister remained behind with the Head of State.

The retired intelligence officer claimed the woman became alarmed when Abacha suddenly stopped responding during the encounter and discovered he had no pulse.

In panic, she reportedly left the villa after requesting transport back to her hotel before the incident became known to security personnel.

Amachree said the woman boarded an early morning flight to Lagos before security agencies could question her.

He disclosed that after Abacha’s Chief Security Officer, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, was informed of the incident, efforts were launched to trace the woman, leading to instructions from the DSS headquarters for her arrest and interrogation in Lagos.

Recounting the interrogation, Amachree said the woman repeatedly insisted she had nothing to do with Abacha’s death.

“I did not kill him, he died on top of me,” he quoted her as saying.

According to Amachree, her account convinced investigators that the former military ruler died from a coitus-induced cardiac arrest, a conclusion he said effectively debunks the numerous assassination and poisoning theories that have persisted for almost three decades.

Abacha ruled Nigeria from November 1993 until his death on June 8, 1998.
