25-year-old woman arraigned for allegedly stealing wigs in Ondo

A 25-year old student, Adebayo Racheal, was on Thursday arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing two human hair wigs valued at N330,000.

The defendant was charged by the police with stealing a 10-inch burnt-orange wig valued at N155,000 and a 12-inch brown bone-straight wig worth N175,000, belonging to a hair stylist.

The prosecutor, Taiwo Oniyere, told the court that the alleged offence was committed around 10am in June 2026 at Fasawe Community, Owo.

According to the prosecution, Udoezi reported the disappearance of the wigs after lending them to the defendant.

Oniyere said the defendant, who was temporarily staying with a friend at the time, later claimed that the wigs had gone missing.

He said the matter was subsequently investigated by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Akure, leading to the defendant’s arraignment.

The charge, according to the prosecutor, contravened Section 390(8b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 31, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant’s counsel, H.O. Orisamehinti, applied for bail, urging the court to grant her bail on liberal terms.

The prosecutor did not oppose the bail application but urged the court to impose conditions that would ensure the defendant’s attendance at subsequent proceedings.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Temitope Adurota, admonished the defendant and urged her to be responsible in her dealings.

The magistrate subsequently granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.

The sureties, identified as the defendant’s brother and sister, were required to meet the bail conditions within 24 hours.

The court adjourned the case to October 8, 2026, for further hearing.
