2027: Wike’s loyalists in Nasarawa PDP join APC

Some loyalists of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike in the Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have formally collapsed their structure into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

They pledged to support the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule and the 2027 governorship ambition of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.

The Leader of the group of former PDP officials from Keffi Local Government Area, Mohammed Sani Keffi, announced this yesterday while leading a delegation on a visit to Governor Sule at his Gudi country home.

The delegation was led by Prince Abdullahi Attajiri, the Convener of the Muje Maha movement in support of Governor Sule’s senatorial ambition and Senator Wadada’s governorship bid.

On behalf of the defecting members, Keffi said the decision to dump the PDP for the APC was informed by Governor Sule’s record of performance across the state.

The delegation leader cited infrastructure projects, including the Mararaba flyover, the Keffi flyover, road and underpass projects in Akwanga, and various road networks in Lafia, among the projects the governor has provided for the residebts.

He described them as achievements without precedent among governors in Northern Nigeria.

He also said the thousands of defectors across the state’s three senatorial districts had also resolved to support Governor Sule’s choice of Senator Wadada as his successor.

He noted that the defection of Wike’s loyalists extended beyond Keffi to cover all parts of the state.

Keffi announced plans to formally receive the governor, the PC governorship candidate, and other party leaders at the state and national levels at a larger reception in Keffi town.

The former national ex-officio of the PDP also announced the defectors’ support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the President lost Nasarawa State in 2023 but was now better positioned to win the state on the strength of Governor Sule’s endorsement.

He said the group’s objective was to ensure victory for all APC candidates in the 2027 general election, including the President, the governorship candidate, all three senatorial candidates, the five House of Representatives candidates, and all 24 members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

He appealed to other political chieftains in the state to embrace unity and rally behind Governor Sule’s administration.

He described opposition politics in Nasarawa State as no longer necessary, given the governor’s record.

Responding, Governor Sule expressed gratitude to the defectors for joining the APC, describing the development as evidence of growing unity, peace and progress in Nasarawa State.
