2027: NDC insists, says it has gov candidates in all 28 states

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims that it lacks governorship candidates in some states ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that it has candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections will hold.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, made the clarification in a statement on Saturday, describing the report alleging that the party was missing candidates in 12 states as false and an attempt to undermine its growing political strength.

Director said the NDC had completed its nomination process and remained prepared for the 2027 elections, maintaining that the party had structures and candidates across the country.

He said the party was not a regional organisation but “a national movement” with presence in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027,” the statement read.

The party also released the names of its governorship candidates in the 12 states mentioned in the disputed report.

They include Senator Kabiru Marafa for Zamfara State, retired Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim for Borno, Hon. John Odey for Cross River, Babanta Michael Okon for Akwa Ibom and Nwofe Boniface for Ebonyi.

Others are Yakubu Solomon Ndam for Plateau, Ilu-Barde Aliyu for Katsina, Alhaji Umar Usman Besse for Kebbi, Jonga Yahaya Gabakau for Yobe, Dutse Aminu Sani for Jigawa, Prof Yahaya Mohammed Sani for Taraba and Abdu Sidi Bomi for Niger.

The party accused its critics of spreading misinformation and urged journalists, bloggers and content creators to verify information before publication.

“Journalism thrives on truth, not rumours. Peddling unverified propaganda only erodes public trust in the media and in our democracy,” the party said.
