2027: Four plaintiffs withdraw suits challenging Yayi’s Ogun Governorship bid

Four legal actions challenging the 2027 governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, have been discontinued by the plaintiffs.

Adeola’s Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the withdrawals were formally recorded in open court, with the defendants and their lawyers duly served notices of discontinuance.

Odunaro said one of the suits was discontinued on August 24, 2026, while the other three were withdrawn on September 7.

The cases include suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, filed by Professor Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act, 2011.

Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police were listed as defendants in the suit.

Another suit, No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was instituted by Arc. Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun State Chairman of the Booth Party; Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State Chairman of the Young Progressive Party; Ola Olamide Emmanuel of the Action Democratic Party; Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, a member of the ADP; and Fesomade Gbadebo of the Labour Party.

Adeola, INEC and the APC were named as defendants in the case.

The other two matters, FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, were also discontinued.

Odunaro said the plaintiffs in the two cases included some party officials and members who were involved in the earlier suits, as well as Dr Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State Chairman of the African Democratic Party; Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope of the Labour Party; and Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun.

The plaintiffs did not publicly disclose reasons for their decision to discontinue the suits.

The statement, however, said the litigants had become convinced of the merit of Adeola’s candidacy and had consequently decided to support his political ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Welcoming the development, Adeola said the discontinuation of the cases would enable him to devote greater attention to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State.

The senator said he would continue his mobilisation and campaign activities across the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
