2026 Ballon d’Or: He’s a genius – Barcelona president, Laporta picks Lamin Yamal to win

Barcelona President Joan Laporta has declared that “genius” Lamine Yamal deserves to claim the 2026 Ballon d’Or award. Laporta made the comments while addressing reporters ahead of Barcelona’s opening UEFA Champions League match against Feyenoord.
His endorsement follows France Football’s release of the 30-man nominees’ shortlist, which included the teenage forward.
During the period under review, Yamal won the LaLiga title with Barcelona and lifted the World Cup with Spain.
 

“I would love for Lamine to win the Ballon d’Or,” Laporta said. “I would also be delighted if any player from Barça wins it. Lamine is a very mature guy. A genius. He is extraordinary.”
