20-year-old terrorist surrenders to troops in Borno
A 20-year-old fighter formerly affiliated with the JAS terrorist group has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State.
The fighter, identified as Kurso Muhammed, surrendered at about 2:25 p.m. on August 23, 2026, to troops of 21 Special Armoured Brigade at New Abaram Resettlement Village.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makana, the surrender followed sustained intelligence-driven operations by the troops.
The former fighter is currently in military custody for screening and further processing.
The latest development adds to recent reports of terrorist elements abandoning their enclaves amid sustained military pressure and internal challenges within terrorist factions operating in the North-East.
The Joint Task Force said the general security situation across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops continued to maintain satisfactory morale and fighting efficiency.
