'100% Correct:' Trump Agrees With Xi’s ‘US In Decline’ Comment, Blames Biden
US President Donald Trump defended Chinese President Xi Jinping during his ongoing Beijing visit after Xi reportedly referred to the United States as “perhaps being a declining nation.” Trump argued that Xi’s remarks were aimed at the Biden administration and not at the current state of America under his leadership.
In a lengthy Truth Social post shared early Friday morning in Beijing, Trump wrote that Xi was referring to “the tremendous damage we suffered during the four years of Sleepy Joe Biden and the Biden Administration.”
“On that score, he was 100% correct,” Trump added.
Trump blamed the previous administration for “open borders, high taxes, transgender for everybody, men in women’s sports, DEI, horrible trade deals, rampant crime, and so much more.”
Xi has for years promoted the idea that “The East is rising and the West is declining.” While the phrase broadly references Western powers, Chinese leadership, state-controlled media, and political analysts have often applied it specifically to the United States, citing political polarization, social divisions, and economic changes as signs of long-term American decline.
It remains unclear whether Xi made similar remarks directly during this week’s closed-door summit meetings with Trump in Beijing.
Trump Says US Has Seen ‘Incredible Rise’
Trump insisted that Xi was “not referring to the incredible rise” the United States has experienced during the “16 spectacular months” of the Trump administration.
The president pointed to “all-time high stock markets and 401K’s,” a “record 18 trillion dollars” in investments into the US, and what he described as the “best U.S. job market in history.”
Trump also referenced the Middle East conflict in his post, writing that the “military decimation of Iran” was “to be continued!” The remark came amid continued uncertainty surrounding the fragile ceasefire with Iran.
Before departing for China, Trump had said the ceasefire was on “massive life support,” while Vice President JD Vance recently stated that the administration was “making progress.”
The comments came as Trump and Xi held high-level talks in Beijing focused on Iran, trade, Taiwan, and energy security.
Xi described US-China ties as “the world’s most consequential relationship” and warned that Taiwan remained “the most important issue in China-US relations,” cautioning that mishandling it could create a “very dangerous situation.”
Trump also claimed Xi assured him China would not provide military equipment to Tehran and had offered help in resolving the Iran conflict.
